First Class Dining during a Recession
First Class Dining during a Recession
Whenever the economy tends to take a minor detour to the black abyss, the immediate response from people typically mirrors one of two behaviors: become an emotional spender OR hide. Although I can identify with both behaviors, I believe there exists a balance. When money is running tight, one can still enjoy the pleasures of eating out, shopping, and going for cocktails with friends by adhering to an approach I'm going to call RPSS (Recession Proof Sanity Savers). Now RPSS does not come naturally to a lot of people as it takes the eye, experience and know-how to master. Luckily, I was born with RPSS and it has served me well over the years, enabling me to live like a millionaire without breaking the bank. Over the next few months, I will post a number of RPSS on my blog that I hope will serve as a respite in your daily grind. Today, I'd like to talk about dining...and let me start with this...you should NEVER pay full price for anything....unless it is the ahi tuna dish at Alberta Street Oyster Bar which is to die for (Laurel, I want your recipe)! There are a myriad of happy hours that exist in Portland and you are silly to not take advantage of their exceptional deals. I have created a list of my favorite restaurants I frequently visit for happy hour, along with the times for your convenience.
Andina - 430 to 630, M-F
Alberta Street Oyster Bar - 5pm to 7pm M-Sa, all day Sunday
Bamboo Sushi - 430 to 630 M-F
